Where to go in Kerala
The coastal area of Kerala is simply beautiful, stretches of unspoilt tropical beaches with many cultural and heritage sites offer visitors much to do and see. Life is slow and easy here with an emphasis on health and relaxation. To the east the mountainous regions offer a more adventurous terrain with an abundance of forests and wildlife, there really is something for everyone here.

If you simply want to relax take a houseboat trip along the backwaters, spend a day enjoying Indian cuisine as you pass through palm fringed canals or if you can watch the sunset from Kakkathuruthu Island on Vembrand Lake then spend a night floating out on the tranquil waters.

Indian traditional arts are plentiful in Kerala and can be experienced firsthand by joining in a festival, a popular destination is Kannar where theyyam rituals and dancing are performed in a colorful display. Afterwards, sample the local hand weaving or simply head for Muahappilangad Drive-in Beach and soak up the sun.

Musical arts are best appreciated by hearing the Panchavadyam or orchestra of five instruments, four of which are percussion and one is wind. The rhythmic cycles of beats originated in the Kerala temples and are widely popular. If it’s humor you seek don’t miss the satirical Ottamthullal where the one man cast dons green makeup and colorful dress for an entertaining and laughter filled show.

A visit to Kerala can be relaxing and peaceful, full of adventure and fun or a trip of culture and history or a pleasing combination but one thing you won’t be is sorry that you came.
